You’ll find all over the web that people will say you should have a gram of protein per pound you weigh, but really you want to try about 1.2-1.5 gram of protein per pound of MUSCLE you have. Excessive protein can be detrimental to your health, but 160-190g doesn’t sound bad especially that I assume you workout on a regular basis. That amount would be excessive if you weren’t. I would just hope that you aren’t getting all of your protein from powders. Just keep eating and working out, My 2 cents.

Online there are recommended doses for protein for heavyweight lifters. But protein can only helps to rebuild the torn muscles that you get from lifting. If you want to gain weight then you should lift like you have been. As I said before the only good the protein will do is rebuild the muscles.

Gaining over 40 pounds of muscle mass will be quite a challenge. For football I believe your coaches, or maybe even yourself, feel that it is necessary to weigh 200 lbs. That might only be a recommendation. My belief is that you should weigh only as much as your body will allow you to. However, if you want to be 200 lbs try and gain it in muscle mass and even body fat. Just dont let that affect your coordination.

    Best of luck
